Sisters from France in critical condition after crash northeast of Calgary

An SUV driver and passenger involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon are sisters from France who are both still in life-threatening condition, RCMP said in an update Thursday.

The collision happened just northeast of Calgary in Rocky View County and is being investigated by rural RCMP out of Airdrie.

Police responded on June 6, at 2 p.m. to the collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 564.

A semi truck was travelling south on Highway 9 when the SUV going east on Highway 564 crossed in front of it and the collision happened.

Both women in the SUV were critically injured.

The 29-year-old driver of the SUV had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency crews.

The driver was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to the hospital, while the 26-year-old passenger was driven by ground ambulance.

The driver of the semi truck was not physically injured.

Police don’t believe drugs and alcohol are factors in this collision, and said the investigation is ongoing.
